Hi,

We have Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise installed in ServerA in abc domain and Monitoring 2 SQL Server instances in that abc domain. Now we brought a new spot light license for another SQL instance which is in xyz domain.

Now I want to add and Monitor this new SQL instance from the existing Spotlight, already insatlled in ServerA.

What are the steps to follow.

thanks

Hi Gary,

So long as you can connect over TCP/IP using Windows authentication this is fine. If there is no trust established between the domains connectivity will not be established.

How can I make sure Is there a trust exist established between the domains? I mean where can check this?

If you can run wbemtest from the command line and can get data back from the monitored host, that's one possibility. You can also right-click on the desktop, select new/text file, change the extention to .udl (and accept the dialog to change the file type). Then double click the udl, specify the connection details with Windows authentication and if you can see a list of databases or get a sucess message from test connection, you can verify that a trust exists.

I have used .udl file to check the connection from a server where Spot light is installed( fromabc domain) to server in xyz domain and the connection is working and I'm able to see the databases too.

But when I try to make a new connection from spot light, its NOT connecting? Here I used a specific username & password(a sql login) because windows authentication is NOT working

anything else to check?

That would depend on the error you see in Spotlight Today. Also, you need to verify that the udl connected with. Windows authentication and verify WMI connectivity either with wbemtest or through services.msc connecting to the remote server.
